COULD you make someone’s festival experience in Bournemouth?

After the success of the Festival Makers at Bournemouth Wheels Festival in May, more are being recruited for the biggest event in the town’s calendar – the Bournemouth Air Festival – as well as for other events.

The idea was inspired by the 2012 Olympic Games Makers and is being organised with the help of Bournemouth University, Bournemouth Tourism and the National Coastal Tourism Academy.

Festival Makers help to inform and guide residents, visitors and participants at the town’s big events.

Jon Weaver, head of events at Bournemouth Tourism, said: “Festival Makers will experience the town’s fantastic free festivals close up by becoming volunteers – the award-winning Bournemouth Air Festival and the thrilling Bournemouth Wheels Festival.

“Volunteers will be at the centre of the action and excitement, working behind the scenes to help put on one of Bournemouth’s brilliant major events. It will not only be an amazing experience and a proud moment for them representing their town but they will also have a good story to tell about how they were there and involved.”

Festival Makers will be led by Bournemouth University’s Festival Makers supporter, Dr Debbie Sadd, and will receive full training including specific festival information, information on Bournemouth as a holiday resort and customer service training.

One Festival Maker, Michelle, who took part in the Wheels event, said: “Being a Festival Maker is a fun and exciting experience to suit all ages. It’s a great way to meet new people, make friends and promote Bournemouth. We were well supported by the organisers and even got up close to the action. I can’t wait for the next event as I loved every minute.”

The scheme has been supported by the Coastal Business Improvement District, the Town Centre Business Improvement District and Bournemouth University.

Interviews will be held on August 2 and there will be a training day on August 16.
