POOLE’S oldest woman celebrated another milestone birthday on Saturday – her 107th.

Eve Ward had a party attended by Poole Mayor Cllr Peter Adams, carers and residents at Regency Manor Care Home, Lower Parkstone.

Head carer Nicole Cashell said: “It was a wonderful day, we had a ukulele player doing old wartime classics – everyone had a great sing song.

“Eve had her hair done and we all had barbeque food.

“Eve is one of the happiest residents here, she is lovely to talk to and really enjoys her time.”

Eve was born in Bradford seven years before the outbreak of the First World War. She travelled the world before settling in Dorset.

Her father was a wool buyer and Eve worked for the diplomatic corps in Australia for seven years.

She also served as a Red Cross nurse and with a friend ran Poole’s Harbour Heights Hotel, where officers were billeted, during the Second World War. She met her husband at the hotel.

The couple had no children and sadly her husband died a few years after their wedding. Eve never remarried.

She is also a talented pianist, who often plays at the home, and wrote several books, a play and an unpublished novel about her life.

Eve was presented with her seventh message from the Queen. Miss Cashell added: “One year Eve noticed the card with the message was the same as the previous year, so she wrote to the palace asking for another.”

The palace obliged.
