  • Christchurch Festival continues all weekend
  • On Saturday, a dinosaur-themed roller derby extravaganza will see Severn Roller Torrent take on Surrey Roller Girls. The Dorset Roller Girls face Plymouth City Roller Girls.
  • Queens Park Academy is turning its school fair into a country show complete with WI judged backing, farmers market and bird of prey display on Saturday between 11am - 3pm.
  • Burton's annual Scout carnival takes place on Saturday.
  • A 6ft x 15ft ramp will be set up in the Dolphin Centre this weekend to showcase bmx-ing and skateboarding.
  • A six-a-side football tournament and fun day for the British Heart Foundation is being held in memory of 48-year-old Gary Chirnside on Saturday at Upton Rec.
  • Some of the finest locally produced food and drink in the area will be showcased at Corfe Castle over Saturday and Sunday,
  • The largest Junior Beach Volleyball Festival takes place at Sandbanks from 9.30am till 6pm on Saturday and Sunday and entry is free.
  • Hundreds of cyclists will take to the roads around the county on Sunday for the 26th annual Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.
  • Meyrick Park and Oakmeadians RFC will play host to the O2 touch rugby event involving roughly 250 people - one of the biggest of its type in the country. Action starts at 10.30am on Saturday.
  • A fun day is being held at Orchard Nursery in Kinson to raise money for the Megan Smile charity and the nursery on Saturday.

We've had a message from American Fizz, purveyors of all things sweet from the States, based at Wallisdown Road.

They are celebrating their second birthday, as well as Independence Day yesterday.

They said: "Today we have Uncle Sam and Spongebob Squarepants at the store, talking to the young ones and just having a good time! We are giving out tons of free samples of all sorts of American Foods! We are also giving away one of our American Sweets gift hampers (worth £20 each!) every single hour this weekend!"

Bournemouth Echo: THEY’RE OFF:  Riders set off from Corfe Mullen recreation ground

Hundreds of cyclists will take to the roads around the county on Sunday for the 26th annual Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.

This year's ride, which starts from Corfe Mullen, will be started by veteran Macmillan cyclist Gerry Robinson, of Broadstone, who has raised more than £10,000 for Macmillan.

Bournemouth Echo: BMX bikes, skateboards and scooters – Bournemouth Wheels Festival welcomes top UK talent

Didn't get your fill of thrills and spills at the Wheels Festival? well, if you're after more action head to the Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole this weekend.

A 6ft x 15ft ramp will be set up to showcase BMX-ing and skateboarding. And if you fancy a go, shoppers and spectators will be invited to come and participate in 15 minute skateboard workshops.

The emergency services have been called to the B3081 Ringwood Road at Verwood after a car and van collided.

Police, fire and ambulance were sent to the scene at 2.43pm. A woman in the car, a Nissan Note, has been treated by the ambulance crew.

The van driver was uninjured, police said.

Bournemouth Echo: Teddy bears help medical staff do their work

Grab your teddy and join an attempt to hold the world’s largest teddy bears’ picnic on Sunday.

The event is to raise money for a young boy with cerebral palsy.

People are being urged to bring a picnic, blanket and a bear or two to the Larmer Tree Gardens, Tollard Royal from 11am.

The record attempt will take place at 1pm. The current world record is held by Dublin Zoo who held a picnic for 33,573 bears.

There is an admission fee of £1 per bear and people can bring up to 20 teddies with them.

All proceeds will go to the Alfie O’Neill Cerebral Palsy Treatment Fund, which will fund physiotherapy for six-year-old Alfie, who lives in Gillingham.

A dinosaur-themed four-hour roller derby extravaganza takes place on Saturday at the Sir David English Leisure Centre.

The event will see Severn Roller Torrent facing off against Surrey Roller Girls, with home team Dorset Roller Girls headlining, taking on Plymouth City Roller Girls.

Tomorrow a football tournament will be held in tribute to dedicated county footballer and referee Gary Chirnside.

Gary died of a heart attack on June 29 last year, and his son Ross is hosting a six-a-side tournament and fun day in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

The event, at Upton Recreation Ground, includes a barbecue, raffle, tombola and children’s activities.

A HOST of free fun is on offer when a sand and gravel quarry holds an open day to mark its 50th anniversary.

MB Wilkes hosts the event on Sunday, July 6, 10am to 4pm, at its base, Henbury Quarry, Old Market Road, Corfe Mullen.

Attractions will include live music, pony rides, free tractor and trailer rides thanks to Farmer Palmer’s, a free Wescountry Landrover Experience, a bouncy castle, an appearance by the fire brigade and a clown.

Classic car owners are also welcome to take part but must be in place by 2010. There will also be a chance to see the quarry’s machinery in action.

The Met Office says there will be showers until midday on Saturday with sunny spells in the afternoon and a top temperature of 19C.

Sunday is looking sunnier with highs of 18C and heavy rain forecast from 7pm onwards.

Bournemouth Echo: Crowds enjoy last year’s Christchurch Festival

Christchurch Festival starts tonight at the Quomps, Christchurch Quay, and continues all weekend. The Boscombe Ukulele Social start the Saturday action at 12.30pm. There's music until 9pm both nights and the final act of the festival is Lady Winwood's Maggot round off the event on Sunday night, plus there's a dance festival taking place in Christchurch town centre.
