Open Farm Sunday: see which farms you can visit across Dorset next weekend

First published in News

Don’t lie in next Sunday (June 8). Dig out your wellies and head along to one of the 300 farms country-wide taking part in Open Farm Sunday.

The day – co-ordinated by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) – aims to give the public a behind-the-gates look at what exactly happens on a working farm.

You can hear and see the positive steps farmers are taking to keep the shops stocked with quality British produce, ensure a thriving rural economy, and keep it alive with wildlife.

It’s also a chance to spend a day in the fresh air!

Each event will include activities based around the host farm’s own individual story and what it does best.

Features during the day could include a farm walk, nature trail, tractor trailer rides, pond dipping, activities for kids, mini farmers market or picnics.

The first Open Farm Sunday in 2006 welcomed around 30,000 visitors. Since then, Open Farm Sunday has achieved visitor numbers of over 100,000 each year and last year had a record 200,000 visitors.

To date over one million people have attended Open Farm Sunday events since it began.

Hurry, hurry, hurry! Councillor Flower and his Dorchester coterie will have read this list and quickly realise that these farms were missed by the build and flog it brigade. Amend the Core Strategy quickly. Cannot have a Dorset with farms in it.
