A MAJOR road in Christchurch was shut this morning because of flooding.

The A35 Barrack Road was closed between the B3059 Stour Road and the B3073 at Bargates but re-opened around 10am.

However, at around 7.30pm on Saturday, the road was still experiencing flooding.

There is also flooding at Iford Lane.

Heavy rain has hit the area overnight and the rest of Saturday is forecast to continue to be wet.

There is also a lot of surface water at Stony Lane roundabout, Stony Lane and Bargates.

Purewell Cross roundabout is just passable due to flooding also water levels are subsiding as the day continues.

Keep up to date with all the traffic information here

Just be driving around area thismorning. A number of roads in Christchurch, Southbourne & Iford also impassable. Had to do about 3 u-turns

Just over 20mm (4/5ths of an inch) fell here in just over three hours up to 0845. This comes on top of the half an inch of rain the fell in the early hours of yesterday.
No wonder there are flooding problems.

Feel sorry for those at Bournemouth Rugby 7s, especially the campers. Gonna be a mudbath!!

Just to add.. The back edge of the heavy rain has now just cleared through. Dry for the next few hours now before the risk of heavy showers later.

Blah blah blah rain blah Iford Lane flooded....is this really news? Surely someone getting off their behind and doing something about it would be more interesting news. I feel sorry for the people who live there. They must cringe when the weather forecast comes on.

Having an extremely dry (groan :-) sense of humour I find it rather amusing that people have just been voting for a political party, one of whose number puts the appalling weather down to gay marriage. I'm aware that people like to blame whatever party is in power for just about everything, but I believe that blaming them for flooding is going just a bit too far.

If you actually bothered to read the article it did say other roads other than Iford Lane. Plus a number of roads in Southbourne, Christchurch & Iford which were not previously flooded in the winter were turned into rivers at 6am. I would consider therefore roads turning into rivers as being rather newsworthy
