A VINTAGE transport weekend attracted hundreds of people to Bournemouth Aviation Museum at the weekend.

The two-day event at the Hurn museum saw families and youngsters enjoy a visit to the museum to see classic vehicles, live music from the 1940s, vintage fashions and military re-enactments.

After a one-day event last year, organisers decided to turn this year’s entertainment into a weekend occasion, which proved successful.

With the sun shining all weekend, visitors were able to enjoy refreshments in the warm weather while youngsters clambered inside exhibits and explored the aircraft on show.

Ali Morris, one of the trustees at the museum, which is located next to Adventure Wonderland, said: “It’s been brilliant.

“Moving the event from March, which is when we did it last year, has had a really positive effect.

“It’s easy to see a way forward for the museum now; it’s been really, really good.

“We will keep the event in May next year as well and make sure we do it over two days as it’s worked so well.”

The trustees are also organising another event in June celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Red Arrows.

The Red Arrows fun day, which is being organised in conjunction with Bournemouth Red Arrows Association, will take place on Saturday, June 28 from 10am to 5pm.

Earlier this year, trustees celebrated after being told by Christchurch council they can stay in their current home for as long as is needed.

Ali added: “It’s going to be a good year for us. Sales are going up and we are looking forward to moving on.

“There are also plans to introduce more aircraft as well.”
