AS the Bournemouth Wheels Festival draws nearer, organisers have issued advice on getting there for those planning to attend.

Roads around the town will be closed to accommodate the attractions, particularly around the East Cliff.

There will also be closures in the town centre on the evening of the final day, Monday May 26, to make way for cycling events.

East Overcliff Drive will be shut from Wednesday, May 21, for a week, with other roads on the East Cliff closed for the weekend of the event, May 24-26.

Jon Weaver, Bournemouth Wheels Festival director, said: “With thousands of festival goers expected in the town, if you can leave your car at home we would strongly advise you to do so.

“With excellent public transport links in and around the town you will be able to make your way to the Festival easily. If, however, bringing your car is unavoidable then we have a Park and Ride service in place to make the trip as stress-free as possible.”

The event website – bournemouthwheels.co.uk – will feature an interactive map, which, when accessed from a mobile device, will provide information on activities and events happening close by.

Mr Weaver added: “If you’re new to the town, once you arrive the Geo-Mapping device will be able to guide you to the locations where you want to be, so that you don’t miss any of the action.

“Whether it’s monster trucks or motorbikes you’re interested in, just filter your choices and the app will give you directions to the show of your choice taking into account you current location.”

The event’s Park and Ride will be open at Kings Park on all three days from 9am to 10.30pm and will cost £10 per car.

The festival will see wheels-related events around the town, including monster trucks on the beach, a demonstration straight on the East Overcliff, where there will be classic racing cars and bikes, stunt bikes at Pier Approach and supercars and classic cars on display on the seafront, at the Pavilion and at the BIC.

See the full list of road closures at bournemouthecho.co.uk/ wheels n The souvenir programme for the event will cost £7 and will contain detailed information about all the attractions, as well as featuring discounts on grandstand seating and Monster Truck rides.

It is available now to pre-order at bournemouthwheels.co.uk and will be available from the Tourism Information Centre soon.
