Block of flats in Poole evacuated after fire - one man treated for smoke inhalation

Bournemouth Echo: Block of flats evacuated after fire - one man treated for smoke inhalation Block of flats evacuated after fire - one man treated for smoke inhalation

A block of flats was evacuated in Poole in the early hours of Thursday after fire broke out on the fifth floor.

It happened in Sterte Close at around 3am in the nine-storey block.

Emergency services were alerted after a caller said they were unable to escape.

One man was treated for smoke inhalation and all occupants were quickly accounted for.

Crews from Hamworthy, Poole and Westbourne attended.

A discarded cigarette is thought to have been the cause.

Incident Commander Dave Cooper said "The occupier was alerted to a serious fire in the lounge by his smoke alarm, he had a fire plan in place which at night meant that he closed the lounge and kitchen doors when he went to bed.

"This plan ensured that the fire was confined to the lounge and allowed him to escape this serious fire unharmed and he raised the alarm to alert others as he left the building."

Nothing to do with the article but the Echo is shocking for news, as the post above points out they havent put the news about the Corals conviction in yet and also Barclays announce they are making 15,000 people rundundat most in the the UK, what does this mean for the people of Poole that work there, nothing on the award winning Echo.

The echo like to make the police look incompetent, they know this always raises debate. They never have a good word to say about our depleted police force, so I would like to congratulate them on a rapid arrest- unfortunately due to our pathetic judicial system, all the police hard work will be in vain, and the gentleman concerned will soon be free to terrify the public again, the decent members of society that earn their money, not steal it.
