TWO young entrepreneurs from Verwood have taken their first steps into the business world.

Helena Gifford, 12, and 13-year-old Megan Lilly, who are both students at Emmanuel Middle School, launched their own business ‘Favourite Things’ at Verwood Farmer’s Market.

Helena’s mum Sarah Gifford said: “Helena has wanted to start her own smoothie and cake business since the age of 10.

“She was delighted when her friend Megan wanted to be involved too and both girls have worked really hard, perfecting their baking skills.”

‘Favourite Things’ sells home-made loaf cakes, bags of cookies and freshly made smoothies.

Helena added: “We would like to thank everybody for turning up to support us.

“We sold more than 20 loaf cakes – lemon drizzle was the favourite!”

Megan said: “We would also like to thank the organisers of Verwood Farmer’s Market. They have been really supportive.”

The girls have received a five-star rating from the Environmental Health office and are they are both also studying for their Level 2 Food Handler’s course.

‘Favourite Things’ will be selling their products at Verwood Farmer’s Market on the last Saturday of the month this summer and autumn.
