POLICE are hunting two pedestrians who attacked a motorist in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 32-year-old driver was hospitalised after the incident, which took place in Gillingham between 3.40am and 3.50am.

He had slowed down for traffic lights at the junction of New Road and Newbury in the town when he heard someone – believed to be someone on foot - hit the back of his car.

The man, from Sherborne, got out of the vehicle and was assaulted by two men who punched him several times.

PC Jonathan Fewins, of Gillingham police, said: “The victim sustained cuts and bruises which required hospital treatment.

“The offenders were both wearing Gillingham Rugby Club ties and it is thought they had been seen at Legends Nightclub earlier on.

“I urge any witnesses to the incident to come forward as soon as possible.
