SHE is used to shaving her customers’ heads, but barber Tina Desmond chopped off her own locks to raise money for charity.

The 44-year-old had vowed to cut her hair short after her wedding on Valentine’s Day, just ten days after the funeral of her mother, who had been diagnosed with dementia eight years previously.

So when her new husband Rick suggested she go for the chop for charity, Tina decided to organise a fundraiser in aid of The Little Princess Trust, The Alzheimer’s Society and the Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Kent, a big cat sanctuary where the pair were married.

The event was organised in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of Mirage hair, beauty and barber shop in Wimborne Road, Kinson, where Tina is the barber.

Tina said: “There were afternoon cream teas, chocolate fountains, wine, charity waxing of eight brave men, also a raffle, a silent auction which continues until April 20 and my eight ponytails cut off by eight different people which have gone to The Little Princess Trust, which supplies human hair wigs for children who are suffering from and being treated for cancer.”

The event has so far raised £2,600, but Tina is hoping to hit the £3,500 mark.

To help Tina hit the total, bid on one of the silent auction items on the Mirage Hair Facebook page, or search for Tina Haskell Desmond at justgiving.co.uk to donate.
