AN OCCUPATIONAL therapist from a Poole charity which helps people recovering from brain injury will be running the London Marathon next month.

Lucy Sangar, 43, is set to tie up her running shoes and hit the pavements of the city to cover the 26-mile route in support of Headway, where she has worked for the past eight years.

The keen runner hopes to raise £2,000 for the good cause and says that she takes inspiration from the clients she works with, including Jade Hutchings, 20, who was seriously injured in a car accident in 2012.

Jade was in a car with three other people in Cranborne, when it hit a wall, leading her to be airlifted to Southampton Hospital, before being put into a medically induced coma.

At the time, her family was told to prepare for the worst, but thankfully for her parents, Julia and Steve, she pulled through.

Lucy said: “Every day is a struggle for Jade, who now volunteers for Headway, but she is absolutely lovely and she has done so well with us.”

She added: “My incentive for running is the people I work with, like Jade, who have come so far since suffering a head trauma. To the clients, every day is a marathon, so I want to do it for them. I did the full marathon at the Bournemouth Festival last year and really enjoyed it, so I think I will do that again.

“But for now, I am really looking forward to doing the London Marathon, and feel privileged to be able to take part.”

A fundraiser for Headway Dorset is being held on May 17 at 7.30pm at St Peter’s Church Hall, on Church Road, with music from The Volatile Agents. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Headway Dorset on the provided number.

Lucy is also hoping to make a Guinness World Record attempt in costume for the fastest ‘internal organ’ taking part in the London Marathon, hoping to beat the previous record of four hours, 28 minutes.
