A SCHOOL in Poole town centre will be celebrating 75 years since it was founded with a series of special events in May.

Poole High School, on Wimborne Road, will enjoy a host of events to commemorate the fantastic occasion, including a wartime-themed day for pupils on Friday, May 2, which will see students wear costumes and eat food themed around rationing.

Then, on Saturday, May 3, members of the public and former students of the school, formerly known as Henry Harbin School, are invited to come along and join in a fun day.

David Newman, operations manager, said: “On May 3 we will have people from the Tank Museum in Bovington who will be showing off a range of what they call handling goods, such as hats, gas masks and ration books. We will have a spitfire based in the school grounds, and vintage stalls and items for sale.”

Fan Heafield, headteacher, said: “Our charter 75 years ago was to support the residents of Poole with admissions to the school and that still remains today. We still have our complete original buildings and we just want to celebrate everything about the school.”

Mrs Heafield said that they were keep to hear from former students and members of staff, who may have photos or mementoes from the school, to help them look back over 75 years of history.

She added: “It’s quite important for us to show the students what the school used to be like and what the similarities and differences are.”

The celebrations on Saturday, May 3 will run from 12pm to 4pm and are open to all members of the public, with past students welcomed.
