DORSET’S Police and Crime Commissioner and his team have launched a campaign to find more Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs).

The volunteers inspect police cells and check on the welfare of those in detention, with 18 currently working across the county already. Commissioner Martyn Underhill said: “One of my strategic priorities is to ensure high standards of professionalism in Dorset Police.

“That includes the best possible standard of care in the county’s custody function. I would like to welcome new members of the public who are keen to help the force deliver on this aspect of the Police and Crime Plan.”

Three information events for anyone interested will take place at the Custody Suite, Joint Emergency Services Building, Wimborne Road, Poole, Dorset, BH15 2BP on Friday, February 28, at 10am, Monday, March 3, at 2pm and Tuesday, March 4, at 7pm.

These events will be attended by current custody visitors. The closing date for applications is Friday, March 21, 2014.
