GRAB your shiny tracksuit, boom-box and piece of lino for a celebration of break dancing this summer.

A collaboration between the Bournemouth Pavilion and Pavilion Dance South West will welcome back last year’s successful hip-hop weekend event, B-town Throwdown from June 6-8.

The highlight of the weekend will be the highly acclaimed festival of hip hop dance theatre, Breakin’ Convention, on Saturday. The date in Bournemouth will be the final stop of Breakin’ Convention’s 2014 tour.

This hugely popular event that will take over the Pavilion for the entire day, culminating in an evening performance and post-show party, is hosted and created by UK hip hop theatre artist Jonzi D. Alongside performances from local crews, B-town Throwdown will also feature masterclasses and a wealth of free outdoor activities.

Deryck Newland, artistic director of Pavilion Dance South West, said: “With over 5000 dancers, participants and audience, the first B-town Throwdown was a massive achievement. We are confident that we can exceed this success in 2014, especially with Breakin’ Convention as the centrepiece of the weekend and such a charismatic host as UK hip hop legend Jonzi D.”

Paul Griffiths, Bournemouth Pavilion general manager said: “Breakin’ Convention is a unique event, perfect for all ages, providing the audience with the best international dance scene experience. The Bournemouth Pavilion complex will be completely transformed with DJs and spontaneous dance sessions all round the building alongside some outstanding performances.”
