MORE details have been confirmed for Bournemouth’s first-ever Wheels Festival.

The event, which takes place between May 24 and 26, is set to bring the town alive to the sound of engines and thrills of power.

Tourism chiefs are hoping to replicate the success of the Bournemouth Air Festival, which has attracted millions of people since it began in 2008.

From historic cars to BMX stunts and monster truck shows, thrills and spills for all are on the cards.

There will be arenas on the beach, clifftop, the gardens and Meyrick Park.

The gardens will be the Family Wheels Zone, with toy cars, cycling displays, have-a-go activities and art displays.

The town centre and Meyrick Park will see vintage cars, cycle races and rides, car and motorbike parades and a classic vehicle pageant.

On the beach, there will be the monster trucks, motorbike stunts and the first-ever attempt to jump over the pier.

Army and Navy vehicles will also be on show and there will be a funfair, shopping and food throughout.

At Pier Approach there will be stunts from BMX, skateboard, scooter and skating experts and there will be car and bike displays on the promenade, with fireworks on the Saturday night.

The East Cliff will be home to a live action demonstration course for racing cars, supercars and motorbikes.

Jon Weaver, Bournemouth Wheels Festival director, said: “Wheels Festival is a brilliant new concept for Bournemouth and it’s already starting to create a real buzz among residents, visitors and businesses.

“We really feel that it will increase as we announce more and more exciting content for people to see and take part in.

“Many towns and cities have car and bike shows, but we’re aiming to expand this to offer a whole range of fantastic wheels-themed content – think every type of wheel imaginable – for festival-goes to see, enjoy and be entertained by.

“It will complement Bournemouth’s already great entertainment programme and will be the third large scale event in the town alongside Bournemouth Air Festival and Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival.”

The festival site will be open from 10am to 10pm every day and entrance is free.
