Man jailed for 12 months for causing death of teenager Mikey Maguire by careless driving

Bournemouth Echo: Mikey Maguire Mikey Maguire

A 21-year-old Poole man has been jailed for 12 months after admitting causing the death of a teenager by careless driving.

Joshua Sadler, of Fleet Road, was the driver of a Renault Clio which careered off the road and hit a tree, killing 19-year-old Mikey Maguire from Upton.

The crash took place at Huntick Road, Lytchett Matravers at 10pm on February 8 last year, close to the entrance of Huntick Farm Caravan Park.

Mikey, a former student of Wareham Middle School and The Purbeck School, died at the scene.

Tributes poured in for Mikey after his death and his mum, Allison Jarman, has since set up Mikey’s Foundation, which aims to promote road safety and campaign to lower the speed limit on Huntick Road.

Speed was not the only factor in that crash I'm sure. Young inexperienced driver, possibly showing off - in which case he would probably not have kept within the speed limit, regardless of what it was ……?

A tragic and unnecessary loss of a young lads life, has not been reflected in the sentence ….

I'm sure the 12 month jail sentence will be of no consolation to his parents

Sloppy Echo reporting - speed WAS not a factor in this accident but the unfortunate passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. Please, please always remind passengers to wear a seatbelt.

I have NO time for people who drive recklessly! I hate to see idiots who speed or drink drive they should be banned for life! A car is a big responsibility and if someone abuses that, they should be banned!

Another pathetic sentence for the taking of a life with a car, a life is a life and perhaps if the sentence was the same as that of manslaughter then perhaps people would drive with more care. I wonder if this is Judge Wiggs the king of pathetic sentencing again?

It's so very sad when youngsters loose their life in an car accident. If only they would get it into their heads, they are not invincible and wearing seat belts could have saved your life in an accident.
