Ferndown’s ‘biggest babies’ to launch summer fun week for town
FERNDOWN’S ‘biggest babies’ are set to take part in a one-of-a-kind charity dash.
Last year’s inaugural Pram Race – which saw adults dressed as babies take part in a pub relay – raised thousands of pounds for local good causes.
And the 2014 event is set to go one better, as it’ll be followed by a week of summer fun for all.
Organiser, Councillor Tony Brown said: “We’re going even bigger than last year.
“We’ve decided to host a Ferndown Fun Week, which will begin with the Pram Race on June 21. That day, there’s going to be a full-blown market in the town centre, which will incorporate a farmers’ market. After that, many of the businesses in the town will run themed nights during the week and, on June 28, it will end with a fete on the King George V field.”
The race, which is strictly for adults, will see teams of runners pushing huge prams between Ferndown pubs.
At each pub, the participants must down a pint, which can be a soft drink, before dashing to the next stop.
Although most of those taking part will be on foot, each team will have a ‘baby’ sitting in the pram.
Cllr Brown said: “We’re doing something a bit different this time.
“We’re going to make the race a bit longer by adding non-drinking related pitfalls and forfeits along the route. Ideas already mooted include blowing up balloons and games of Splat the Rat.”
Three committees have been set up to co-ordinate different elements of the event. To volunteer, or for more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org
