A YOUNG woman who burst a tyre on her car after clipping a roundabout while drink driving was disqualified for 19 months yesterday.

Bournemouth Magistrates Court heard that Emma Sullivan, 22, right, had been drinking with her family on Christmas Day last year, and then had three glasses of Buck’s Fizz on Boxing Day before heading to work at Tesco in Poole that evening.

A member of the public called police at around 10pm after they saw her car clip the roundabout at Yarrow Road, and on checking her welfare they said she seemed drunk.

When breathalysed she had 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

In mitigation, Ian Daly said Sullivan, of Blandford Road, Poole, would not be troubling the courts again.

“She is not a young lady who takes chances,” he said.

“She didn’t feel that she was under the influence when she got into the car.”

District Judge Stephen Nicholls ordered her to pay a £200 fine, plus costs and victim surcharge, with the option to reduce her ban by 142 days by undertaking a drink driving rehabilitation course.

A man whose car was spotted swerving in Walpole Road was banned from driving for 16 months in court yesterday.

Justin Kent of St Clement’s Road, was eventually stopped by police in Boscombe Spa Road late at night on December 23, and was found to have 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Representing himself at Bournemouth Magistrates Court, the 32-year-old, said he was “incredibly ashamed and sorry” for what he had done.

“It was a stupid mistake, I have never done anything like it before,” he said.

He said he had been intending to apply for an area manager role but would now be unable as it requires a full driving licence.

District Judge Stephen Nicholls gave him the opportunity to reduce his ban by 119 days by completing a drink driving rehabilitation course, and also fined him £300, with costs and victim surcharge.

Darah Huddlestone of Cartwright Close, Bournemouth, was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £100, with costs and victim surcharge, after admitting drink driving in Ringwood Road on November 2 last year.

Bournemouth Magistrates Court heard that the 44-year-old had drunk a large glass of wine and a half pint of cider and blackcurrant at two pubs, and had not eaten for a couple of days prior.

A Dorset medical assistant was banned from driving for 12 months despite leaving more than four hours between her drinking and driving.

Bournemouth Magistrates Court heard yesterday that Moira Hawey, 56, was comforting her sister, who suffers from depression, in Poole on December 23.

Although she had been drinking, she said she left “at least four and a half hours” between her last drink at 10pm, and when she was caught driving over the limit in Wimborne Road at around 2.20am.

In mitigation, Summer Abrahams said Hawey, of Birch Close, Corfe Mullen, never intended to break the law and “totally misjudged the affect of the alcohol she had drunk”.

District Judge Stephen Nicholls fined her £200, with costs and the victim surcharge, as well as the driving ban, but allowed her to reduce the disqualification by a quarter by undertaking a drink driving rehabilitation course.

A young woman received a community order after assaulting a man in a Verwood pub, assaulting a police officer and failing to provide a breath sample when her vehicle was stopped by police.

Jessica Bradley-Bissell, from Bingham Road in Verwood, was banned from driving for 17 months at Bournemouth Magistrates Court after admitting the offences from December 1 last year, which included damaging a table in the Monmouth Ash pub.

It was described as a “very nasty incident” by magistrates’ chairman Anne Ketteringham.

The 20-year-old was ordered to undergo 12 months supervision and six months alcohol-abuse counselling, to undertake 80 hours unpaid work, and to pay £125 in compensation to her victims, as well as costs and the victim surcharge.

She was given the option to reduce her ban by 127 days on completion of a drink driving rehabilitation course.

Thomas Leate Hall, of Percy Road in Bournemouth, was disqualified from driving for 38 months after admitting drink driving in Wallisdown Road on December 22 last year.

Bournemouth Magistrates Court heard that the 22-year-old had 68 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He was fined £400 and ordered to pay costs and the victim surcharge.

Aleksander Dominguez, of St Winifred’s Road, Bourne-mouth, was banned from driving for 36 months after admitting driving a red Jaguar in Bourne Avenue on December 9 last year while over the legal limit.

Bournemouth Magistrates Court heard that the 33-year-old had 144 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He was given a 12-month community order and ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work, as well as paying costs and the victim surcharge.

Elliot Coates of Ameysford Road in Ferndown, had been drinking with friends before his Skoda Octavia aquaplaned on wet roads and he ploughed into a hedge.

The 20-year-old wrote a letter of apology to magistrates ahead of his appearance at the Bournemouth court.

Coates was fined £415 in total and disqualified from driving for 17 months.

Wiebke Carvell, 47, had driven to see her sick daughter on December 21 when concerned ambulance crews called the police.

Carvell, of Tollerford Road in Poole, then drove to Tesco to access its late night pharmacy.

She was fined £481 in total and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

A woman who was more than three times the drink drive limit smashed into another car while travelling home.

Diane Catherine Asplen, below, aged 44, of Down Wood Road, Blandford,was discovered by police at 5.40pm on December 28 in The Close, Blandford.

Asplen pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Magistrates banned Asplen from driving for 28 months, with a 213 day reduction upon completing a drink driving awareness course.

She was fined £415, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £42.

A car on the wrong side of a roundabout was being driven by intoxicated Jamie Mark Toates, Weymouth Magistrates Court heard. 26-year-old Toates, who pleaded guilty to drink driving, gave a reading of 66 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

He was banned from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 134 days upon completion of a drink drivers’ course. Toates was fined £150, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.

Silvere Autier, aged 32, of East Road, Bridport, was pulled over by police in St Andrews Road, Bridport on December 21 at around 2.25am.

He pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle when above the alcohol limit and gave a reading of 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He was fined £300, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
