A desperate man broke into Bournemouth and Poole College, twice because he wanted to return to prison, Bournemouth magistrates were told.

Homeless Alex Kelly burgled the college on January 5 and 6 after being released from jail on January 2, the court heard.

Kelly looked for cash but, when he failed to find any, left empty-handed because he didn’t want to steal equipment which would affect students, magistrates heard.

He then walked into Bournemouth police station and confessed to the burglaries.

Defending him, Mark Price said Kelly, 21, had no money and nowhere to live. He said Kelly believed he had been released from prison too early to enable him to arrange accommodation.
