POOLE Road in Upton was closed this morning for an hour and a half after a crash between a car and motorbike.

The incident took place between B3068 Blandford Road North/B3067 Dorchester Road and Palmerston Road.

It happened at the Heights Approach junction with Upton Road and the road was completely closed between Blandford Road and Palmerston Road from 7.40am.

The road closures have now been lifted and police have moved the vehicles - one motorcycle and a Toyota Aygo - into Heights Approach to await recovery.

PC Paul Rogers of Dorset Police said they were in process of recovering the bike from the scene.

"Fortunately the riders injuries are not life-threatening and we will be checking on him shortly. He has got a leg injury. The female car driver was fine."

He said it caused some rush hour traffic delays.

The male motorcyclist is thought to have suffered a broken wrist and a broken leg but his injuries are not described as life threatening.

The white Aygo is registered to a Poole man, as is the white Yamaha YZF R125 motorbike.

There are long delays in the area.

Di Bartlett who works at the Co-op said the incident took place between a car and motorbike.

She said paramedics were just taking the motoryclsrt away and that she didnt see the accident but heard the bang and saw the aftermath.

The motorcyclist appeared to conscious but his bike was in a few pieces, she added.
