A BOURNEMOUTH man who cut off half of his girlfriend’s nose during a row has been jailed for eight years.

Gregory Moors was arguing with Dawn Youngson at his home in Norwich Avenue West when he struck her with a mirror, causing her serious facial injuries.

Moors, 37, who pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, then called an ambulance and admitted the assault during the call.

Prosecutor Carolyn Branford-Wood told Bournemouth Crown Court that they had been drinking at the time of the incident this October, and Moors had smoked some cannabis.

She said Moors, inset, had laughed when he was interviewed by police, describing the incident as “a bit of argy-bargy”.

The victim required surgery to repair her nose and remove glass shards from her face.

“She said she was a normally a very fun person but she hasn’t been outside since, as she is very conscious of the severe scarring of her face and is worried people will stare,” said Ms Branford-Wood.

“She has a seven-year-old nephew and recently wore a tea towel around her face so as not to scare him.”

Moors had previously been jailed for 12 months for two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, in one of which he attacked a man with a hammer.

The pair had known each other since they were teenagers, but had only got together two years ago, and their relationship had degenerated into petty arguments and reconciliations, the court heard.

In mitigation, Rob Griffiths said Moors had not laughed deliberately during his interview.

“Some people laugh in inappropriate places when it isn’t their usual attitude to offending of this nature,” he said.

He said that although Moors’ memory of the incident was vague due to the amount he had drunk, he was very remorseful for his actions.

Judge Peter Johnson jailed Moors for eight years, with a victim surcharge of £120.
