Dorset firefighters set to begin series of strikes tonight

Bournemouth Echo: Dorset firefighters set begin series of strikes tonight Dorset firefighters set begin series of strikes tonight

Dorset and Hampshire firefighters will be among those taking part in industrial action by the Fire Brigades Union tonight from 7pm until midnight, from 6.30pm on New Year’s Eve until 12.30am on New Year’s Day, and from 6.30am to 8.30am on January 3.

During the strikes, driven by a dispute over pensions, stand-by crews will respond to 999 calls, but may be delayed, so both services are advising the public to take fire safety measures.

Those striking you are an absolute disgrace to the job! Nothing will be achieved by doing anything away from the table and you know it, so tell Mr Wrack to pull his finger out and get on with it.
For those sensible firefighters, have a safe Christmas.

What a fool you are, the Union have been trying to settle this dispute for over two years now and it's the Government who are imposing this impossible position on us firefighters. You should be ashamed to abuse people who who want nothing more than to help the public as shown in recent days. All we ask is that we get the pension that we have been paying into all of our careers and to be able to retire at the agreed age. Most of us firefighters have had to make a hard choice to go on strike. If you want a race to the bottom then you carry on slagging us off and we will all end up with nothing !

Regardless of the pros and cons of the strike action, I would like to say thank you to the Council workers who have volunteered to keep watch over the Councils sheltered accommodation blocks during the strike. I do know it is of comfort to quite a few of the elderly residents to know that somebody is close at hand.
