While the weather outside might be frightful, there are still some events taking place over Christmas Day and Boxing Day if you fancy blowing away the cobwebs and venturing outside for a bit of fresh air.

On Christmas Day, brave souls will be taking to the cold seas for the first of two Christmas Day swims.

The White Christmas Dip – a Macmillan Caring Locally event – will be held on the right side of Boscombe Pier from 10am.

Hundreds are expected to take part in the event, which has become a popular tradition for many before their lunch.

At 10.45am the Spartans will be venturing into the water on the left side of the Pier for their traditional swim. Members will be in fancy dress, like the White Christmas Dip, with the Mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr Rodney Cooper expected to attend the event.

Gateway Church Bournemouth and Poole will also be indulging in a swim at Branksome Chine at 12noon after their 10am service.

Youngsters at Poole Hospital will receive their gifts from the Amelia Grace Rainbow Fund on Christmas Day. The charity has been part of the Daily Echo Toy Appeal this year, which has seen hundreds of gifts donated for needy and sick children and families.

On Boxing Day there are a variety of events taking place in the area.

At Avon Beach in Christchurch, the Dare to Bare swim will be held at 11am for brave souls wanting a refreshing dip after Christmas Day excesses.

Fancy dress is optional and all proceeds will go to the RNLI based at Mudeford Quay.

At 11am, Bournemouth Lifeguards will be presented with medals at Durley Chine beach.

And also at 11am, Autism Wessex’s annual 10k run will start at Moors Valley Country Park.

The event is normally held at Somerley Park near Ringwood but has been switched around this year.

The 10k will begin at 11am and the 2k fun run at 11.15am.
