A CHARITY set up in memory of an eight-year-old who lost her battle with childhood cancer is the latest good cause to benefit from the Daily Echo Toy Appeal.

Chantel Cooper, Karl Cox and Julie O’Donnell, who are all trustees at the Amelia-Grace Rainbow Fund, picked up some toys from our Richmond Hill office on Saturday, which will be handed out at Poole Hospital on Wednesday.

The charity was set up in honour of Chantel and Karl’s eight-year-old daughter, who died in 2010 following a battle with a rare form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma.

Now, her parents want to continue her legacy by helping other children with cancer and other life-limiting conditions, including bringing surprises to the Children’s Ward at Poole Hospital on Christmas Day.

Chantel said: “We did a delivery to the hospital last year and because of the kind generosity of the public, we hope to give a present to the siblings of the children on the ward as well this time.

She added: “We are hoping to bring some rainbow magic to the Daily Echo Toy Appeal.

“We are coming to the second year of the Amelia-Grace Rainbow Fund and we are certainly busier than we have ever been as more people get to hear about us.”

The Daily Echo Toy Appeal is now in its 17th year and in 2012 saw more than 10,000 toys handed out to less-fortunate children, bringing a smile to the faces of kids across Dorset.
