DORSET Police Chief Constable Debbie Simpson has today wished Dorset’s communities a happy and safe Christmas as part of the Countdown to Christmas campaign.

Miss Simpson paid tribute to the team of staff, officers, Police Community Support Officers, Special Constables and volunteers who have worked tirelessly during 2013 to help keep the public safe.

Chief Constable Simpson said: “I would like to take this opportunity not only to wish our communities a very happy Christmas but to reflect on what we have achieved together during 2013.

“Despite the significant financial challenges that have continued throughout this year Dorset remains a high performing Force with an excellent reputation. Our staff, officers, Police Community Support Officers, Special Constables and volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure that the public continue to receive the service they depend upon. As a result Dorset remains a safe place to live and visit.

“In Dorset we pride ourselves on our team approach to delivering a quality service. Not only am I proud of all the staff who play their part, but I am grateful for the support provided by friends and families and the sacrifices they make in ensuring the public receive this service.

“The success achieved is not in isolation however, and I would like to add my thanks to all our partner agencies that have faced and overcome similar difficulties to meet the needs of the public.

“At the Police and Crime Plan launch earlier this year I said that the time appeared right to just stop and check whether the current Force values of Professionalism, Respect, Fairness and Integrity said all that we wanted about Dorset Police. I asked for feedback from colleagues, our partner agencies and our communities and the response was overwhelmingly ‘let’s keep the values we have’, because these are still valid despite the challenging environment we face.

“In order to meet some of the financial challenges, there has been real progress toward collaborating further on some of our functions while ensuring that we continue to provide a quality service to the public of Dorset. This is an important area of work that will continue into the New Year.

“So, once again I would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard this year and share my passion in making that difference to our communities.

“All that remains is to wish you, your family and friends a very happy Christmas and a healthy and safe New Year.

“As always, you can contact Dorset Police 24 hours a day, seven days a week, over the festive season by phoning 101 for all non-urgent enquiries.

“In an emergency, when a crime is in progress or life is in danger, please dial 999.”
