A YOUNG boy was injured in a crash with a car in a busy road in Boscombe on Thursday night.

The nine-year-old was taken to Poole Hospital with head injuries following the collision at Ashley Road on the junction with Christchurch Road at 6.48pm.

Passers-by reacted with shock at seeing the young lad lying in the road and the whole area cordoned off by police.

The car involved was a blue Mitsubishi Colt driven by a 33-year-old man who sustained minor injuries.

Police closed off the road to allow paramedics to tend to the pedestrian, but it was reopened just after 8pm.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: “We received a call of a collision involving a nine-year-old boy and a vehicle at 6.48pm on Ashley Road on the junction with Ashley Chambers.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101.

A spokesperson from South Western Ambulance Service said: “The nine-year-old was taken to Poole Hospital with head injuries.”

Sahu Gani, who works in the Costcutter store, said: “A young boy was injured when he was trying to cross the road. Lots of customers have come in saying how distressed they were to see him lying in the road.

“Police and paramedics arrived quickly and cordoned off the whole area.”

Nick Bright, who lives in Boscombe, said: “It was awful seeing someone so young injured. I really hope he’s not too badly hurt.”

The road closure caused traffic disruption in the area.
