FRIENDS of Rico Dardis were ordered to leave court after shouting abuse at the two men accused of murdering him.

They yelled: “You’re safer inside” and swore at them when they appeared before Bournemouth magistrates for a brief hearing today.

Homeless Paul Mark Gerlach, 51, and 50-year-old Louis Borzoni of Hamilton Road, Boscombe are alleged to have committed the offence in waters off Dorset on Monday May 27.

They were jointly charged earlier this week and appeared for the first time at 11am.

Dressed in casual clothing, they spoke only to confirm their personal details during the two-minute hearing.

They were remanded in custody and are due to appear before a judge at Winchester Crown Court on Friday morning.

Tearful members of Mr Dardis’ family were alco in Court 3 for the hearing.

The body of Mr Dardis, 30, of Hawkwood Mews, Boscombe was discovered near groynes at Seaway Avenue, Friar’s Cliff, Christchurch and his cause of death has been recorded as drowning. He also suffered injuries caused by a boat propeller.

Police were first alerted to the incident by members of the public who said they had seen two men acting suspiciously on a boat.

A major police operation was launched and searches were carried out in a nearby car park and three blocks of flats in Bournemouth.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information about the death of Mr Dardis and members of the public are urged to call 101, quoting incident number 27:447 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
