I'm shaving my head so my friend can have the best Christmas ever
PINK-haired Helen Glover will undergo a close shave this Christmas to raise funds for a friend.
The 40-year-old will lop off her much-loved locks with the aim of making this festive season the best-ever for Carol Andrews, who has been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer.
The mum faces an uncertain future after learning the cancer has spread to her ribs, liver, breastplate and a lung.
Helen, of West Moors, said: “I just want to raise as much money as I can to make sure that Carol and her lovely family will be able to have the best Christmas ever.
“Half of everything donated will go to Julia’s House hospice, as I volunteer there, and the other half will go directly to the family.”
Helen, who uses crutches as she suffers a debilitating and painful spinal condition, usually dyes her hair a host of bright colours.
“I’ve had it pink, blue, purple – I like it to be very bright,” she said.
“I’ve actually been trying to grow my fringe out for four years. I really love my hair and I know I’ll cry when it goes, but it’s just so worth it.”
The head shave is just one of the activities that will take place at the Nightjar in Ferndown on December 22.
“We’re going to have some lovely stalls and things to do,” said Helen.
“I’m hoping as many people come along as possible to drop some money into the bucket for Carol and her family.”
She added: “ Carol never fails to ask me how I am, even when she’s been through a day of chemotherapy. She’s so wonderful and kind, and I will do everything I can to help.”
