He's been hailed as the UK's most influential comedian of all time and now Billy Connolly is bringing his latest stand-up tour to Bournemouth Comedy legend Billy Connolly is on the road again with his High Horse show, which comes to the BIC for two nights on November 28 and 29.

It won't surprise fans to know that the Big Yin - as he is affectionately known, particularly in his native Scotland - has been voted the best comedian of all time by Channel 4, and included as one of the Huffington Post’s favourite UK comedians.

Yes there are many more strings to his bow than just making people laugh.

Connolly's press release describes him as a 'stand-up comedian, actor, musician, TV presenter and artist' - although his professional life actually began with an apprenticeship as a welder in his hometown of Glasgow.

His first foray into showbiz was as a musician - he became a professional performer in 1962, forming folk band The Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty until 1971 before pursuing a solo career as a comedian.

The move into comedy was clearly a good one - aside from starring in numerous films and TV series, Connolly has toured worldwide continuously for the last 50 years, performing to an audience of more than10,000,000.

He was awarded a CBE in 2003, was given the Freedom of the City of Glasgow in 2010, and was named Britain's most influential stand-up comic in 2012.

Away from the comedy circuit, Connolly is perhaps best known for his moving performance as the loyal servant John Brown in the highly acclaimed Mrs. Brown, while his other film credits include Gulliver’s Travels, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Fido, Garfield 2, Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Last Samurai and Timeline.

On television, Connolly featured in Head of the Class, which was later spun off into his own series, he has also made various television guest appearances, most notably in the US series House M.D as well as Columbo, Third Rock From The Sun and Veronica’s Closet.

He has also turned his hand to TV hosting, with Billy Connolly’s World Tour of Scotland, a six-part series documenting a tour of his homeland, a theme continued later in his World Tours of New Zealand, Australia and England, Ireland and Wales.

Connolly has hosted television series Journey to the Edge of the World and Route 66, as well as other specials such as Pale Blue Scottish Person, A Scot in the Arctic, The bigger picture and An Audience with Billy Connolly.

More recently he has presented the two-part series Billy Connolly’s Big Send Off.

In his 'spare' time, Connolly has also made an impact on the art world, with his original artwork displayed in various exhibitions throughout the UK since 2012.

His current tour is a rare stand-up outing for Connolly who, with his abrasive humour, hilarious stories and shocking performances made him a huge star. It’s one show not to miss.
