Police are still searching for a weapon after a man was stabbed near Littledown on Friday night.

Police were called to Regent Drive at 5.13pm on Friday evening to reports that a man - a local man in his 20s - had been stabbed.

He was taken to hospital, having sustained a stab wound to his chest, where he received treatment for a potentially life-threatening injury.

However, he underwent surgery overnight and his condition is described as no longer life-threatening.

It is believed the offender - described as a man of mixed race in his late teens/early 20s - left the scene in a silver Vauxhall Astra.

A similar car was found in Linwood Road a short time later and detectives believe this may be connected to the incident.

Early enquiries have indicated that the victim and offender are believed to have known each other.

No arrests have yet been made.

Detective Inspector Dawn Barrett, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Searches have been carried out in the nearby area overnight and this morning but we are yet to recover the weapon used in this incident.

“I would urge anyone who lives in the Regent Drive or Linwood Road area to check their gardens and outside property areas. If you find a knife, please do not touch it but call Dorset Police immediately.

“I would still like to hear from anyone who was in the Regent Drive or Linwood Road area at around 5pm yesterday and witnessed the incident or saw a man or silver Astra in suspicious circumstances to please come forward.”

The area around Regent Drive and Harewood crescent was cordoned off while police dealt with the incident.

Nearby resident Emily Apps said: "We were sat in the living room when two police cars sped past with their sirens going.

"We had no idea what was happening but then they started to cordon off part of the road. It looked serious."

Resident Mike Kibble initially heard one police car in the area and thought it was attending an incident on the A338 Wessex Way nearby.

"I then heard a second police car so I came outside and then all hell broke loose," he said.

"Around eight police cars turned up, as well as ambulances.

"I saw a guy lying in a driveway being seen to by paramedics.

"This is a pretty quiet road normally, and I've lived here since 1993," he added.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 30:357.
