SOME of the world’s leading experts in visual effects and animation will flock to Bournemouth for this year’s BFX Festival.

Organised by Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth, the four-day event will feature a range of talks, workshops and screenings as it celebrates British talent in visual effects, animation and games.

Sofronis Efstathiou, senior lecturer at Bournemouth University and the BFX Festival director, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the second BFX Festival this year and to celebrate the best VFX and animation in the world.”

Urging members of the public to support the event, which will be held at the Bournemouth International Centre from September 24 to 28, he added: “There is truly something for everyone from industry experts to hobbyists, animators to technical directors.

“Come and learn more about this amazing industry and the hard work that goes into creating some of your favourite movies and computer games.”

Masterminds behind the Oscar-winning visual effects in the blockbuster Gravity, which around 50 graduates from BU and AUB worked on, will be speaking at the festival.

Other highlights include exhibitions from Disney featuring artwork from Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent.

The winners of Bournemouth University’s BFX competition, which invites students from across the county to create the best animation and visual effect from a selection of briefs and screenplays, will also be announced at the event.
