A SCHOOLBOY was knocked to the ground in Poole by a car which then left the scene.

The six-year-old boy was pushing his bicycle on a pelican crossing in Wimborne Road beside his mother when the green car drove through the red light and collided with the bike, knocking him over.

Fortunately, although shaken, he was uninjured during the incident, which took place at around 3.45pm on Thursday last week.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and the car continued on towards Fleetsbridge.

Police Constable Mark Palmer, of Dorset Police's Traffic Unit, said: “It was fortunate that the boy was not more seriously injured.

“I am appealing to the driver of the green car to come forward to help us ascertain exactly what happened.

“It is believed that the car is a quite distinctive colour - the mother describes it as 'bogey' green so it is possible someone may remember the incident or saw the vehicle in the area at the time.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 11:135. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

How awful glad the young lad is ok and shame on the driver for jumping a light and not stopping. Its a common occurrence here on our crossings been banging on to the police about for years.

I hope the young lad recovers completely although I cant see the car driver coming forward, who in their right mind would own up to driving a bogey green coloured car.

Wimborne road in Poole stretches from Barclays roundabout to Fleetsbridge roundabout, and I can think of at least three pelican crossings on that road.
Take your pick which one.........Great accurate reporting.
Oh and how many green cars are there in Poole ?

I don't see the relevance of your comment - it states Wimborne Rd in Poole, so there's no confusion as far as I'm concerned :o/

I am always amazed with these types of cases that no one who witnesses this happening ever has the presence of mind to get either the make of car or the registration number, some people just don't think.

Yep, and if only they never jumped red lights either.
Such a shame, that for some, what is happening outside the car is further down the list of priorities than it should be.

Shame that we don't know what variety of car, there really aren't that many green cars on the road as it's never been a popular colour.

As previously pointed out it's likely to be an uninsured driver.

Me and my wife saw a 'bogey' green car, fluorescent green Corsa i think with altered body work I believe the other week that was parked on Garland Road by the chicane. Coming from Longfleet Road on the left just past the St Marys Road Junction. Myself and my wife had a chuckle about it's nasty 'bogey' green colour. It was the first time we saw it and only time.

Not the point , here the boy was pushing his cycle across a PEDESTRIAN crossing, the point being the person who should have stopped didnt. It irrelevant what vehicle they had car or cycle.

My husband's Ninja certainly does not look like a bogey!!! Was the lad going across the pedestrian crossing riding his bike? Anyway I hope he is okay! It also could have been a bogey coloured bicycle - they are good at running red lights...........
