A MOTORCYCLIST has died after being thrown 100 yards from his bike in a late-night crash.

The biker, 31, named locally as Alan Wright, was killed while travelling along the A31 at around 12.30am this morning.

A member of the public found him lying in the road and his bike was found some distance away.

It is believed he struck a bollard while riding near St Hubert’s Church, before colliding with a safety barrier running alongside the road and then an embankment.

His bike is thought to have been found behind a hedge.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said police and ambulances raced to the scene but the victim could not be saved.

“A single vehicle fatal road traffic collision took place on the A31 at Corfe Mullen,” she said.

“The rider of a motorcycle, a 31-year-old local male, was travelling westbound when he lost control of his grey Yamaha bike.

“He fell from the machine, sustaining serious injuries.

“He was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. The next of kin have been informed.”

The A31 was closed overnight from the A350 Poole Road Roundhouse Roundabout to the B3078 Lake Gates Roundabout while police completed investigation work into the crash. It re-opened at around 9am on Sunday and floral tributes have been left at the scene.

A spokesperson from the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at around 12.32am reporting that a man had been found lying in the road.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic rapid response vehicle attended. However, no one was conveyed to hospital.”

The Rev Pamela Walker, of St Hubert’s Church, said prayers were said this morning for the motorcyclist.

“I said prayers at our church for the person involved in this tragic accident and his family, as well as the police officers who were at the scene,” she said.

“At the later service, I informed people about what had happened, and further prayers were said.

"It’s a tragic situation and our hearts go out to the family and friends of this poor man.”

The incident took place just over a mile away from a serious collision involving a motorcyclist on June 13.

The man, in his 40s, suffered life-changing injuries after hitting a metal sign close to the Roundhouse Roundabout.

PC 373 Savage of Poole Traffic Department is appealing for any witnesses to the fatal crash to contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 22:12.
