A MAN is fighting for life following a horrifying crash in the grounds of a Poole care home.
During the incident, which took place last night, a Volkswagen Golf careened off Alexandra Road.
It then collided with the outside wall of the kitchen at Alexandra House Residential Home.
Two men inside the vehicle are believed to have been thrown out, sustaining serious injuries.
Christine Carter and husband Michael, who live nearby, dashed outside after hearing the crash.
Mrs Carter said: “My husband phoned the ambulance, and as he was on the phone, I ran over to see if I could help in any way.
“As I went over, I could see that one lad was conscious, but the other wasn't. He was staring up.”
Neighbour David Baker said he was alerted by a “horrendous noise”.
“The car seems to have hit the kerb and skidded all the way along until it hit the wall,” he said.
Myles Davies and wife Jeanette were standing just metres away when the crash took place shortly after 9pm.
Mr Davies said he saw “sparks” as the car hit the kerb and skidded sideways across the care home's lawn.
“I saw smoke and we could hear the speed of the car,” Mrs Davies said.
“The two men were flung out as the car spun.”
She said she stroked one of the young men's heads when he regained consciousness, while her husband got into the car and turned off the engine.
“We thought they'd done a runner as there was no one in the car,” said Mr Davies.
“I didn't realise for a minute that they were lying on the grass.”
Tammy Dodd, a consultant anaesthetist at Poole General Hospital, held the unconscious man still while waiting for ambulances to arrive.
“The paramedics and police did a great job,” she said.
“The young man was lying on the ground on his back, so rather than move him, I was able to keep his airways open and hold his head still. There were lots of people living in the road who came out to help, and everybody was really fantastic.”
Sergeant Stuart Pitman of Dorset Police's Poole Traffic appealed for anyone who saw the car in the area at around 9pm to call Dorset Police by calling 101 quoting incident number 503:21.
