Our year: group of fostered youngsters create DVD showcasing achievements
A GROUP of fostered children in Poole were able to create a DVD of their achievements over the past year thanks to a donation from bank JP Morgan.
The children, who are supported by Action for Children’s Poole Kidz in Care service, created the film as part of an award ceremony to celebrate their accomplishments including raising awareness of what it is like for the young to be fostered.
They also campaigned to change how aspects of social media handle care placements.
Poole Kidz in Care was commissioned by the Borough of Poole and also saw the young people featured receive specially-created photo mugs of their time together.
Aldina Taylor, participation worker at Action for Children, said: “These young people have done some fantastic things over the course of the year.
“They have created their own song about fostering as part of a music project with the Arts University Bournemouth.
“They also met with the head of social services to help stop children being sent into care placements with their belongings in bin bags, which was what had happened previously.
“Many of these young people do not have lots of happy memories or photos they can look back on positively, so we hope that giving them something tangible will be valuable to them and help them realise all they have achieved.
“We are very grateful to JP Morgan for donating the money that has allowed us to do this.”
Caroline Donnell, chairman of the JP Morgan Community Relations Committee, said: “We are delighted our donation has been able to help in this way.”
