ORGANISERS of Poole Carnival – which takes place through Parkstone on Bank Holiday Monday – say it is set to be the biggest since the 1970s.

The grand procession will leave Sea View at 11.15am and travel along Ashley Road and Alder Road to Branksome Recreation Ground, where there will be a full programme of entertainment.

The rec will have stalls, fairground rides, an arena, a bar tent and a marquee for the flower show.

Town crier David Squire said: “I ask the town of Poole to support this fun event – bring your family and friends and especially your children and support our big carnival, the first since 2002.”

The event will mean road closures to allow for the procession to travel along Ashley Road and Alder Road.

The section of Ashley Road from the Sea View roundabout to North Road will be closed from 8.30am to around 12noon to enable the floats to muster and prepare for the parade. Sea View Park will also be closed to traffic except parade-related vehicles.

The parade sets off from Sea View at 11.15am.

Ashley Road will be closed to all westbound traffic at the Alder Road junction from 11am and will remain closed until the parade has entered Alder Road.

Eastbound traffic, and traffic crossing Ashley Road, will be allowed until just before the parade approaches.

As the parade approaches Alder Road, the route will be closed from the Pottery Junction roundabout to Yarmouth Road. Diversions will be in place using Yarmouth Road, Bournemouth Road and the northbound side of Alder Road.

Recreation Road will also be closed when the parade reaches Alder Road, from the junction with Alder Road to the junction with Library Road, until the parade enters Branksome Rec.
