A CHARITY festival in memory of a music-loving teenager will take place again this summer.

The second annual Gunstone Gathering 2014 – organised following the death of 18-year-old Sam Gunstone in May 2010 – will raise funds for a charity set up to support the local arts scene in East Dorset.

Tickets are now on sale for the family-friendly ‘mini fest’, co-ordinated by charity The Gunstone Trust, which will take place from June 6 to 8 at Wimborne Football Club.

Musical talent from across the county and beyond will perform at the festival.

Emma Godden, trustee and one of the event’s organisers, said: “We want to build on the success of last year’s event and encourage people of all ages to come along and soak up the sounds.

“The musically-rich community that we have in Wimborne and indeed the rest of the county deserves to be celebrated and appreciated and giving these musicians a platform such as this festival to showcase their talent is something that is really important to us as a charity, especially as we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Wimborne Football Club in allowing us to hold this event there again, and by the artists willing to give up their time to play for us in order to help further our fundraising.

“There really will be something for everyone music-wise, with a spectacular array of genres being represented over the weekend.”

She said more than 30 live acts and DJs are expected to perform over the weekend.

Last year’s event helped charity volunteers to make enough money that they were able to finish their first project – the installation of a skate, BMX, inline and scooter facility at Redcotts Recreation Ground, with support from Wimborne Town Council and East Dorset District Council.
