FFIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze at a popular fish and chip shop in West Parley in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Crews from Redhill, Ferndown and Christchurch tackled the fire at Herbies in New Road after receiving a call at 1.22am.

It is believed that the cause of the fire is accidental.

The shop will remain closed for around two days while staff deal with the damage

In a note taped to the window of the restaurant, owners wrote: “We have had a minor fire in the early hours of Sunday morning, 1.30am.

“Hopefully we will only be closed for a couple of days only, following a good wash and clean throughout. Sorry for the inconvience.”

A Dorset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “The damage was around 10 per cent by fire to the room of origin and there was also smoke damage.”

The fire was extinguished using four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.
The stop message was received at 2.10am.
