A CARER was banned from driving after she was breathalysed on her way home from work on New Year’s Day.

Gynis Ellens was found to be over the limit when she was stopped by police just before 9am just yards away from her house.

A breath test found the 65-year-old from West Lane, Everton, Lymington had 56 milligrams of alcohol per hundred millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 milligrams.

In mitigation, Southampton magistrates heard Ellens’ sister was terminally ill with cancer.

Ellens, who pleaded guilty to drink-driving, was fined a total of £110 and ordered to pay £50 court costs plus £20 victim surcharge and given a 12-month driving ban.
