THEY are the 50 men who literally sung for life at a charity concert to help people battling cancer.

Nearly 1,000 people packed into a fundraising ‘Sing for Life’ concert which raised more than £10,000 for Bournemouth Hospital Charity.

A free 10 week ‘Learn2Sing’ crash course was offered to local men interested in learning to sing before the amateur singers joined the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir to perform at Poole Lighthouse to raise funds for men’s health projects at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals.

One of the newly-trained singers Geof Curtis, who was treated for prostate cancer at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, said the men who signed up needed no previous experience – just enthusiasm.

He said: “I joined the group because I wanted to learn to sing and when I found out it was to raise funds for Bournemouth Hospital Charity I wanted to help, because – it is no exaggeration to say – the hospital saved my life.

“It has been an excellent course with lots of voice training and breathing exercises. It’s a really good group of blokes and we were all there for the main purpose of trying to help the hospital.”

Bournemouth Hospital Charity community fundraiser Sara Armstrong said: “This donation is absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much to everyone at the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir who took part in Learn2Sing and performed at the Sing for Life concert. It was a brilliant performance and we are so grateful for the £10,000 they have contributed towards our men’s health projects.”
