AN action-packed schedule of sport and music is set to attract more than 30,000 people to the Bournemouth 7s Festival this weekend.

The three-day event, backed by the Daily Echo, officially got underway on Friday with campers arriving on the site from midday.

But the sporting side of the event kicked off Saturday morning.

Now in its tenth year, the festival - at Bournemouth Sports Club, Chapel Gate, East Parley, Christchurch – is set to be the best yet.

This year almost 400 sports teams will be battling for supremacy on the pitches, alongside performances from 40 live acts and DJs in a dozen festival arenas.

Mistajam, Artful Dodger and Brandon Block are the headline acts for 2017, and big names from the sporting world are expected to attend.

Lucy Darrall, sales and marketing manager for the festival, said: “So far it has been the best year we have ever had.

“Everyone has been in really good spirits and there has been a great atmosphere around the festival.

“We are all just excited to enjoy the rest of the weekend and celebrate our tenth birthday.”

Security has been stepped up for the weekend, following the events in Manchester earlier this week, and armed police have been spotted patrolling the site.

Ms Darrall added: “There were some long queues yesterday while we carried out extra security checks at the entrance but everyone was very understanding.

“At the end of the day everyone is here to have a good time and be safe.”
