A NEW tapas restaurant is set to bring a dose of culinary flair to Southbourne.

Terroir Tapas is seeking permission to open at 81 Southbourne Grove, which currently houses Lady Mary's Antique Vintage and Modern store.

According to its application, the restaurant, run by the same team responsible for the Larder House nearby, will offer a selection of "worldwide flavours and fine wines" with a "keen focus" on vegan and vegetarian options.

"Designed with a sleek and sophisticated atmosphere the emphasis is on quality with a targeted clientele that appreciate food and drink trends," the statement says.

"The design will also appreciate sustainability with live walls of edible plants, and a keen focus on harvesting produce from ethical sources. All whilst reducing the environmental impact of the businesses byproducts."

It will include a 15m long bar with food and drinks prepared together in front of customers.

The plans are to be considered by borough planning officers.

It comes as some traders have hit out at the parking situation in the area killing off trade.

The Daily Echo reported last month that the parking situation in the popular high street was having a detrimental impact on trade.

As well as higher business rates and a reduction in on-street parking spaces, some businesses had decided to shut up shop as a result of the alleged drop in footfall.

However, shoppers and business owners were still positive about the area, heralding the independent businesses for keeping the area unique.
