AN artist and former patient of the Dorset Cancer Centre has donated a selection of his work to brighten up the waiting area.

Christian Wulff, who also used to work at Poole Hospital, underwent a course of radiotherapy there earlier this year and wanted to give back to the trust after the positive experience he had.

A professional artist, he has donated four works with a poster style finish depicting Canada geese, French cockerels, flowers and herrings.

"I was so impressed with the quality of care delivered to patients, I almost liked coming to Poole Hospital for my treatment," said Mr Wulff.

"Now my treatment has finished I want to give back to them and felt four pieces of art to brighten other patients time at the cancer centre was the perfect way to do so."

Mr Wulff was introduced to art at an early age and started painting when he lived in the Middle East.

He worked as a clinical neurophysiologist alongside his painting until 2007.

His artworks have been exhibited at numerous high profile locations including the House of Commons and the Multiform Design Center, Copenhagen.

The gallery was unveiled last week with a cream tea celebration attended by trust chief executive Debbie Fleming and chairman Angela Schofield, as well as Mr Wulff and hospital staff.

"Art can be very therapeutic for patients during an understandably stressful time," said Karen Bew, head of therapy radiography.

"We are very fortunate to have these beautiful pieces donated by Christian and we are sure our patients will enjoy them.

"They help make our waiting area into a welcoming friendly place."

The Dorset Cancer Centre is based at Poole Hospital and is the major specialist cancer treatment centre for adults in the county. The centre provides a wide range of treatments including radiotherapy and chemotherapy for both common and rare cancers.
