A WOMAN was rescued by firefighters when she became trapped under her own car after she forgot to apply the handbrake.

Emergency services were called to a riding stables on Oborne Road, near Sherborne, at around 12.30pm today.

A spokeswoman from Dorset Police said: “It appears she was getting something out of her boot of the vehicle and the car rolled back onto her.”

The force spokesman said the handbrake of the car had not been applied.

Fire crews from Sherborne and Yeovil used airbags to lift the vehicle to release the casualty, who was taken to hospital by ambulance. Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

Following the incident, a spokesman from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service reminded motorists to always fully apply the handbrake.

The spokesman said: “Always ensure the handbrake is correctly applied before leaving the vehicle.”
