ALLEGATIONS that a Bournemouth convenience store is failing to prevent crime and disorder are to be considered by the town’s licensing committee.

The Best One convenience store in Windham Road, Springbourne will have its premises licence reviewed by members of the licensing board at a hearing on Tuesday, November 18.

The review has been requested by Dorset Police under section 51 of the Licensing Act 2003.

Dorset Police would not give any details of their concerns about the shop except to say that they “do not consider the premises to be promoting the licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety”.

Bournemouth council was also unable to provide any more details about the reasons why Dorset Police has sought a licence review and the owner of the shop was unavailable for comment.

At the hearing in November, Dorset Police will present evidence as to why they think the shop is failing to prevent crime and disorder.

Councillors will have a range of different options open to them, including taking no action, adding extra conditions to the shop’s licence or rescinding it.

East Cliff and Springbourne councillor David Kelsey said he was surprised to hear of the forthcoming review.

“We’ve not had any problems there before and I’ve never been made aware of any complaints about anything to do with that shop,” he said.

Any responsible authorities or residents who wish to make representations regarding the application now have until Monday, October 27 to do so.
