A HUNT is on for a hit-and-run driver and a passenger who fled the scene of a crash in Wales which left two Dorset pensioners seriously injured.
A 79-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman, both from Poole, along with a 63-year-old man from Newport, sustained “serious injuries” in the incident on Saturday in Caerleon.
They are being treated at Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital.
None of the victims have been named.
The trio had been dining at a restaurant and had left on foot when they were hit by a Vauxhall Corsa at around 9.05pm.
A force spokeswoman said the man driving the Corsa and the female passenger left the scene before police arrived.
The man is described as white, about 20-years-old and was wearing dark bottoms and a white t-shirt. He is described as having short hair.
The woman is described as having shoulder length hair and wearing trousers and a jacket.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and in particular anyone who may have seen the Corsa being driven before the incident.
Simone Ansen, the owner of The Stuffed Dormouse Restaurant, said she was at home on a night off from work when the crash happened.
She said: “The customers had just left the restaurant when the car hit. The driver has left the scene before the police had arrived.
“It is just really sad.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 595 23/8/14.
