The level crossing on Poole High Street was closed for over an hour this morning due to a signalling fault.
The barriers were closed from 9.30am leaving only the stairways and bridge for access.
At around 10.45am an engineer from Network Rail arrived and began to operate the gates manually.
Normal working resumed just before 11am, when the signalling problem had been resolved.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “We apologies to any pedestrians caught up in the disruption this morning.”
