AN elderly woman has died after a serious crash in Broadstone on Wednesday.

Police shut Lower Blandford Road between Wallace Road and Darbys Corner following the incident yesterday lunchtime.

The woman was initially taken to hospital with a suspected fractured arm but police last night described her condition as 'critical'.

Her family had been informed and were with her at the hospital, they added.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police confirmed this morning, that the woman died in hospital.

The Daily Echo were told by police yesterday that the woman was in her 90s.

She was was driving a red Honda Civic.

The car collided with the central reservation at the junction with Barn Road.

Two crews from Poole Fire Station also attended and use hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle, as the woman was trapped inside, before she was taken to Poole Hospital

Accident investigators were on the scene of the incident, after they were called by South Western Ambulance Service at 1.10pm.

Workmen from Borough of Poole were called to repair the lamppost and a recovery vehicle for the Honda Civic was also requested.

Lower Blandford Road was fully cleared and re-opened by 4.12pm.

Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit are investigating the collision and are keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen the vehicle prior to the collision.
