A POWER cut has affected around 1,000 homes and businesses in the Ringwood area.

The fault was reported early on Wednesday evening.

Scottish and Southern Electric Power Distribution said staff were working on the problem.

A spokeswoman said the power had gone off shortly before 7.30pm.

She apologised for the inconvenience.

"We expect everyone to be back on by 11.30pm," she added.

I live in a very rural location, and on December 23rd, the power went off the 5.5 days - which meant no Christmas lunch etc. I received compensation for the inconvenience. As everyone is so dependent on electricity, a power cut can be a real shock, especially for the elderly. I found a 2.5kw petrol generator in a budget German supermarket for under £180, so next time, I can boil a kettle, run the fridge and some lighting. I'm not going through that experience again.
